The above pull represents a style from Rock Solid and also a granite pull style from Turned In Stone. Rock Solid will make theirs in 2-3/4", 3", 3-1/2", 96mm and 4"ctc's. Turned In Stone granite pulls are 3" ctc. The screws go in approx. where the measurement lines are.

This style of pull has such long feet that it can hide hole spacings longer than its ctc. So a 3" ctc. pull can hide holes up tp 4-1/2" apart, etc. The holes may be seen from the back of your drawer or door, but not from the front. This is a good pull to use when such a dilemma exists.
 

The above diagram shows how you can elongate one hole to accommodate a pull that is "almost" right on for the center to center measurement. You can elongate one with a drill bit or tiny file. You want your screws to thread straight or you run the risk of damaging your pull and it could sit crookedly on your cabinet. One-tenth of an inch is not going to show or damage your cabinet. When tight, the pull will not shift because the other hole is still round.

The easiest way to make an oval hole is by scraping your turning drill bit side to side. Be careful not to break your bit. Gentle up and down movement of the drill while applying pressure sideways will work.
 

The diagram above shows how two holes can be elongated inward or outward. Sometimes 1/8" on each end is all you need to make a pull 1/4" longer or shorter work for you. Again, the pull will not shift when mounted; either the inward edges or outward edges will hold it in place. This method is good for keeping your pulls centered on drawer fronts. Most people will not notice 1/10" as in the diagram to the above right. For vertical mounting, you may have some upward or downward play unless your pull is mounted dead center in a raised panel door.

This is an example of what NOT TO DO. This is not a safe or advised method. It is very difficult to drill a hole next to a hole and you leave very little door stock material between holes, if any. A good tug on a pull could cause it to break the barriers and damage your door or drawer front. It is common to use a backplate + pull combination to hide existing holes. If the new holes you drill are too close to the old holes, you may damage your cabinet one day. Consider filling your old holes with wood putty for added strength first. Then use your pull + backplate combination.
